Discover How (at age “21”) A Childhood Fear  Suddenly Turned From Defeat into Victory

 

The childhood story of Evangelist Leroy Freeman that led to the writing of his latest book, “Death And The Afterlife".

Childhood Fear

  As far back as I can remember (as a little boy), I had a terrible fear of death and dying. Even though I didn’t understand death back then, I had seen over and over how death came and took people off the scene, to be seen no more.

  As I attended funerals, it was terrifying as a child to see bodies that were once so full of life, now lying cold and (perfectly still) in caskets.  How terrible it was to see and hear the sobs and screams as the casket lids were closed during the funeral services. In those days, we often watched as the lifeless bodies were placed (in caskets) and put in the ground. We actually saw the dirt being thrown … completely covering the caskets. This memory of death and dying kept me awake many nights.

Temporary Relief From Fear

  Thankfully, as a little boy, I finally got some relief from my fear of death and dying when I went to church and heard the preacher’s message on the Age of Accountability.

  The preacher said, “The age of accountability is twelve years of age. As long as a child is under the age of twelve , they will (automatically) go to Heaven.”  Today, I don’t know what translation of the Bible the preacher was reading or where he got this doctrine from, but (at the time) it sounded good and was what I needed to hold on to for comfort of my fear of death.

  Even though the truth of that message is not found in the Bible, it still propped me up until my twelfth birthday. 

  Even at a young age, I knew I was a sinner. However, based on what I was taught as a child, I believed (because of my sins) that I would not be going to Heaven unless I was under twelve years old.

  Many nights, I rejoiced knowing that even though I was a sinner, I was under twelve yrs. old; therefore, I was safe.  I was a VERY HAPPY 10 year old … based on what my childhood Pastor taught. Mistakenly, I thought that I was GUARANTEED TO GO TO HEAVEN!

  Then it happened, I turned eleven yrs. old. I knew then I had one more year to be under the Age of Accountability Protection. I counted and cherished every day of that year.

  I will never forget the night just before my 12th birthday, lying awake and counting the minutes until midnight … 11:58 p.m., 11:59 p.m., 12:00 midnight … 12:01 a.m. — uh oh (NOW the FEAR  BEGINS).  

Terrible Fear Returns

  After awaking the morning of finally being 12 years of age, the fear of death gripped me again. I hated being twelve, but I couldn’t reverse it.

  I envied my two younger brothers and my little sister who were now safe under twelve years old and I wasn’t. For nine years, until I was twenty-one years of age, I lived in silent torment. I fooled a lot of my friends who thought I had peace of mind, but deep down on the inside, I knew I was in trouble with God.

  No matter how much I filled my life with all sorts of distractions (positive and negative), nothing could calm my troubled spirit or give me peace from the fear of death and dying. 

  The Hebrew writer spoke of this time by saying, “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to  bondage.” Hebrews 2:14,15

Fear Flees ~ Victory in Jesus!

  Relief from the bondage of fear came for me one Friday night when I followed my brother to church. That night through the power of the Holy Spirit, I heard the Good News of Jesus Christ as never before.
  I saw how Jesus died for my sins and overcame death and the grave by rising from the dead. I was told that if I receive Jesus as Savior, His victory becomes my victory.

  When I received Jesus as Savior, I was delivered and born-again. Immediately, I had peace with God. The fear of death and dying was no longer a terror. I had peace within and all fear was gone.  

  Because of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit, the Thrill of Victory had now come into my life. The devil who had tormented me with death and dying for so many years was now on my hit list.

New Purpose in Life

  My life is now dedicated to the Lord Jesus Christ. I am determined to tell the world about Satan’s defeat and the Good News of the VICTORY that Jesus Christ has won for all mankind.

  No one should have to carry the fear and torment that I carried for so many years of being worried about death and where I would spend eternity.  
  Therefore, I have written a Bible Companion Study book ~ “Death And The Afterlife ~ The Bible Speaks.”

  This is a dramatic, eye-opening book with a powerful message of what the Bible says about our Future. This book uses the pure Word of God to show how ALL MANKIND can be delivered from the fear of death and dying and be prepared to spend all eternity with God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  The Apostle Paul, after speaking about the subject of Death and the Afterlife concluded by saying, “Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”  I Thessalonians 4:18

  “Death And The Afterlife” gives a stern Warning to those without Christ, but … offers much Comfort and Encouragement to believers, revealing the riches of our (Soon Coming) Inheritance through Jesus Christ.

   What Joy to know what the end is going to be of a situation. Once we have THE BIG PICTURE & know the END ~ it makes what we go through (in the Middle) much more bearable … and should cause us to Trust God as never before.
